May 12 – July 31, 2011
Th!nkArt salon presents the premiere of French painter Pierre Marie Brisson: The Body Politic, works on paper by the internationally renowned artist (bio). This collection from Pierre Marie Brisson’s oeuvre reflects the impact of modernity on the soul. His works blend intricate figuration with a deft take on pre-modern textures, overlaying the decayed surfaces with idyllic forms. The juxtaposition of the powerful visual associations of creation and destruction highlight the soul’s conflict as we mediate influences of the past, present and future.
The timeliness of Pierre Marie Brisson’s subject matter demands both introspection and conversation among viewers. Faced with the discarded fragments from our culture used in Pierre Marie Brisson’s work, one must reconcile one’s idea of what is with what has been.
The Body Politic will run from Thursday, May 12th through July 31st, 2011 at Th!nkArt Salon, 670 W. Hubbard St., First Floor, located in the West Loop gallery district in Chicago, Ill. Th!nkArt is pleased to announce that the artist will be present at the opening reception.
Since his first exhibition in 1978 in Orleans, to his current residence in Camargue, France, Pierre Marie Brisson’s unique vision has resonated with galleries across the globe. His blend of the pre-modern and modern reinforces a keen critique of our civilization.
